Can't boot F18 on 2008 Macbook Air

At Chris's suggestion I'm moving this thread over to the Mac forum.

I have dd'ed the Fedora 64-bit live desktop iso onto a usb stick. When I try to boot, I get to the grub menu, and then booting gives me the following output:

Booting a command list

Secure boot not enabled

and then after a while the screen goes black, and nothing further happens.
I've tried removing the quiet and rhgb options, and adding nomodeset. I still get the same.

My latest try was to add noapic (after reading other posts in this forum) together with nomodeset. I still get the same to messages, but the screen has not gone black.

Without the USB stick inserted, the machine boots Fedora 14 perfectly well (I don't have OSX or any other O/S installed).

Looking at dmesg from F14 it says:

ACPI: Video Device [GFX0] (multi-head: yes rom: no post:no)
