AC/Battery state issue

I have power management settings set to put my computer to sleep when I close the computer lid when on battery, but not when on AC power. However when I closed the lid yesterday, the computer was not put to sleep, and when I got back to it today, it had shut off. Not only had it shut off, it had also ignored low battery warnings, believing it was on AC power, until the battery went flat.

Code:

Mar 10 05:01:01 lappy run-parts[27230]: (/etc/cron.hourly) starting 0anacron

How can I troubleshoot why it didn't recognize it was running on battery power?

Re: AC/Battery state issue

I have found under Xfce, using the Power Manager, that it behaves flakey.

I always leave my (older) laptop connected to power, but when I go to sleep, I set the Display to "Switch Off" say after 2 minutes, and randomly it works, randomly it does not. I haven't yet figured out how to debug that.
